BLOG 5: YOUR TYPICAL DAY

Are our daily lives similar? Or do we differ dramatically? Please choose a typical day and write a detailed diary. Don't just include your appointments but all the little things that you experience, like, dislike and have to resolve as the day unfolds. From the moment you wake up to the moment you go to sleep.

Currently I am an unemployed full time student-looking for work but it is pretty hard these days. Luckily for me, I worked my butt of in high school and got some scholarships to pay for school. On a typical day I usually wake up and have some sort of breakfast (if I remember). I check my school email and personal email to make sure nothing important has come up such as scholarship changes, missing school documents, ect. Also, to make sure the department head of nursing has not emailed me about my application. After all that is through I start working on school work and assignments for the week. I currently have two online classes while I am waiting to hear back about my nursing application. My other online class requires me to watch a one and half hour lecture each week, so working on school work usually takes between 1-3 hours depending on how long I decide to work. After that I make and eat some lunch. Some days I will hop on the treadmill and some days I go over to visit and help my mom with stuff around the house. Ever since my dad passed away, I try to be there to often to help her out with things so that she doesn’t think she is totally on her own. If I don’t go to her house, I help my mom’s friend at her job for a little extra cash in my pocket. And other days it is running errands. Usually after that it is time for dinner, which I either cook or nuke in the microwave. After dinner, I take my dog for a short walk around the neighborhood. Then it is back to checking email and working on school work if I haven’t already finished it. It is a pretty laid back day for me usually since I currently do not have a job.

I am a stay-home-mom of two, so I have a scheduled day. I get up at 7am and get ready; then the kids get up at 8 or 8:30. Then I am cooking breakfast and getting everyone ready for the day. Then I let them watch a couple of cartoons while I clean the house. Around mid-morning we have snack, school time and playtime. I am currently working on patterns with my daughter and basic words with my son.

After our busy morning, it is time for lunch; then everyone is down for a nap. While the kids nap, I clean up a little more and take a break. They will sleep for about an hour to an hour and a half. The afternoons are used for any errands which need to be completed, or we go outside and play. We recently saved up enough money to purchase a playground, which is wonderful. Also, we work on collecting acorns and finding bugs. I use this time also, to work on counting and colors.

Finally, by around 6 pm I start cooking dinner while the kids play. We eat at the dinner table as a family, which by dinner my husband is home. Then the kids have bath time, which leads to story time and bed time. Night time is finally when I am able to work on homework for school. I am currently taking three classes; Macroeconomics, Microeconomics and Introduction to Globalization. I feel my day is really busy and a lot of fun.

I have been working since I was 17 (I am 23 now) until this June. I quit my job to move to Missouri and haven’t found a stable job yet. Right now I am making the most of my non-working days by volunteering at a local non-profit organization and visiting my sister who lives six hours away in an extremely remote part of Tennessee. I use my leftover financial aid money and savings which is going to run out in about four months. I’m nervous more and more every week I pay my bills and my car needs fixing. I live with my boyfriends’ sister’s family. It’s a very awkward situation. His sister has a slight mental disorder, her husband is having an affair and their older son lives in the basement who is extremely arrogant to his family. We share a small bedroom with a twin size bed. There is not enough room for us and I am very frustrated that I can’t cook or even put leftover food in the fridge without it being eaten. So we eat out a lot. I’m thinking about getting a dorm room next semester where I can finally be at more peace. I wish I could have my own place again but I just can’t afford it.

Also, thank you for letting me vent, it can be lonely in a new city :-)

You are welcome yulia8na, I know how it is.
Lauren and Jayme, thanks for sharing.

Here was my yesterday.

Got up at 6 and made myself Turkish coffee. The dog seemed desperate for a walk but since my neighbor had posted on Facebook that she found a rattle snake in the yard, I decided to wait until the sun was out. Monday mornings are reserved for grading and administrative work. Usually that takes 4 hours.
Yes, I did walk the dog in between... or rather the dog walked me.
Then my doctor called and some tests had to be repeated. Kind of upsetting but I consoled myself by thinking that in the US the medical establishment goes for the "overkill." I booked Friday for the repeat tests. So we are on hold.
Did some exercising, prepared dinner at 12 pm (I cook it early so when I come home at 7:30 pm it's ready.... you see neither my husband nor my daughter bother with such mundane activities).
Then I drove off to school. No, we don't have mass transit where we live. I used to worry about the dependence on cars and the possibility of rising gas prices until I started reading how many automakers are investing into the electric/hybrid/smart car. Maybe that's the future, I consoled myself.
A day does not look good if you console yourself more than once.
Got to school, taught for three hours. Good classes, we talked about the death penalty. Relevant, with the movie CONVICTION coming soon. The INNOCENCE LIST did provide some food for thought.
Once again I enjoyed my evening classes. The students are very well behaved (with the occasional walk-out for answering the cell phone)and the class average a strong B. Proud of them.
Came home, ate dinner with my husband. My daughter had taken hers upstairs, in her room. Too busy studying biology. A student emailed me the link to the latest Hitchens article. It was titled The Politicians We Deserve. I wondered at the author. Stage 4 esophagus cancer, heavy chemotherapy and yet he writes in a captivating way. I copy:
What normal person would consider risking their career and their family life in order to undergo the incessant barrage of intrusive questioning about every aspect of their lives since well before college? To face the constant pettifogging and chatter of Facebook and Twitter and have to boast of how many false friends they had made in a weird cyberland? And if only that was the least of it. Then comes the treadmill of fundraising and the unending tyranny of the opinion polls, which many media systems now use as a substitute for news and as a means of creating stories rather than reporting them. And, even if it "works," most of your time in Washington would be spent raising the dough to hang on to your job.
He can't be right, he is exaggerating I consoled myself. For the third time in a day.
"I hope Hitchens beats cancer" was my last thought before falling asleep.

I'm a full-time student and I have a part-time job Friday through Sunday. A typical day on a Monday begins with me waking up around 9:30 and dreading the fact that it's 9:30 in the morning when I just got off work the night before at 11. So I get up, do the daily hygiene routine and head out to class that starts at 11am-2pm. Afterwards I head home and look forward(not really) to babysitting my 12 year old niece that gets out of school around 230. From then on I try do my homework which consist of microeconomics, macroeconomics, your class, and Asian humanities. In addition, help my niece with her homework. That usually last till about mid evening when my parents get home from work. Yes I still live at home, I'm 21years old and we're living in a recession. Around 8 or so I would probably go over a friends place and hanging out. Come home around 11pm give or take sometime depending on what's going on. Then I go home, cook something random and creative, in my mind, and do it again the next day. I have classes Monday through Thursday everyday, so it's a pretty routine week.

Lauren said...

^I also still live at home, so no worries. Like you said-recession, times are tough and not everyone has enough money to be living on their own. I mean it is hard enough just to find a job. Thankfully for us, we have parents that don't mind. I have one friend who was kicked out at 18, it made me so thankful to have the family that I have.

I don't really have a typical day, I don't like doing the same thing every day for me it's different all days. But the week I go to school every day so it's a bit of a routine but I finish at 5 a.m so I have uch time to do lots of things as see my friends or my girlfriend, and on the weekend I can go to party or play rugby. My days are not boring so I haven't lots of time for sleeping...

Hello everyone,
I’ll describe my typical day.
When I’m at work, I get up at 6 o’clock. I take a breakfast and let’s go for a nice day (or not).
I usually work from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm and then, I have free time for myself.
I go out with my friends for having a drink, or playing soccer.
And the night, we have 2 solutions : student parties or TV. One is healthier than the other but not better.

I hope to see you soon on the blog.

10/11/10 Typical Monday:
0715-0750- Woke up and helped get kids ready for school, wife and kids depart 0750, kids were good this morning which made things easy.

0800-0900- Eat breakfast and drink coffee while reading news websites and planning day, Post select cereal was really good, coffee was not. Angels kiss coffee from Joffrey’s is one of my wife’s favorites but I do not like the chocolate in it.

0900-0930- Checked email and started globalization assignment, decided on scientific approach even though it may be a dry read.

0930-1030- Exercised- Push-ups, Sit-ups and ran 3 miles with the dog, was a great run. The dog really enjoyed herself and did not give me a lot of trouble trying to run after other people. Beautiful weather out today, I love fall in Florida.

1030-1100- Shower and get clothes ironed and on

1100-1115- Checked email again from professors, printed out Chemistry stoichiometry assignment, which does not look like tons of fun.

1115-1200- Watched first half of recorded USA v Poland football (soccer) match. USA played well, good midfield passing but Jose Altidore needs more service.

1200-1315- Lunch at home with my wife, loaded school stuff into car. Also I listened to anecdotes from my wife’s work in Human Resources at a law firm. It never ceases to amaze me the strange things people do and say while at the office.

1315-1345- Drive to school
1345-1400- Walk to class and get settled in classroom

1400-1545- Anatomy and Physiology test and lab, test went well, I am still really nervous about it as I did not get to study as much as I would have liked. Prof. says grades will be posted within 30 min.
1545-1615- Hung out in library waiting for grades to post with classmate. I got a 98, hooray. There must have been a fairly good sized curve. Still amazed Prof. can runs scantrons and do statistical analysis for curve in less than 30 minutes.

1615-1700- Ate dinner at subway with same classmate.

1715-1800- Back at school, looked over chemistry assignment with classmates in study center. Did not get much done as we ended up talking about our chosen career paths.

1800-2100- Chemistry lecture class on Red-ox reactions and Gas laws. This was kind of frustrating, it is a long time to spend on lecture and the theory behind chemistry is not my favorite part, lab is.

2100-2130-Drove home
2130-2200- Tucked kids and wife into bed, everyone seems tired today.

2200-2300- Studied Anatomy and Physiology, I decide I am not absorbing much so I decide to watch TV instead.

2300-2400- Watched recorded House episode. The new season of House is starting off well. Episode was about a schizophrenic woman who decreases her medication dosage and does not do well. Her husband did not know she was schizophrenic until she ends up in the hospital. I don’t think this part is realistic.

2400-0030- Fell asleep

Sorry about all of the deletions guys. I had some issues with posting and my post got sent 5 times. It seems like we all have the basic routine of taking care of self and family along with school and work. I also find it interesting that the recession has been mentioned several times, though this makes sense as it is affecting us all.
@ Maëlle, don't worry to much about the stereotype of French people not being clean. I think there are some dirty people in every society, Americans included. :)

I have three types of days in my week. days I work, Days I don't and days that I have my daughter.

Days that I work are as follows. I wake at 5:30 A.M, shower and get dressed for work. After I brush my teeth, I test my blood sugar, get my insulin, take my medications for my eyes-including frops and blood pressure pills, then grab something to eat and catch my ride to work. I work in a freshman dining facility at the University of South Florida from 8-4 monday, tuesday, thursday and friday. after work, I walk across the street to Moffitt Cancer Caenter to get my rida home. Once home, I walk my mothers dogs, feed them and walk them again. I help my 9 year old sister(adpoted fromo China) with homework and then retire to do my homework until 10 or eleven at night. I test my blood sugar level before bed, get a series of mediactions for my eyes again, and sleep.
Now, n my days off, Wednesdays and every weekend( I have my daughter everyother weekend, I will go through that next) I wake, take care of the dogs, do my medications and work on homework all day. I usually make dinner for my mother and sister and if my brother comes by him too, then back to homework. Sometimes I watch a movie or read something other than textbooks.
On teh weekends that i have my daughter, I try and get my homework that is due on the weekends done by Friday so I can concentrate on her. She is three. We leave right from work on Friday, drive an hour south to pick her up from her mothers, and drive back. Usually on Friday night we eat out since we are on teh road. We pick my sister up from afterschool care and head home to watch a movie, goof off. We read on Friday before bed. Saturday, we wake and have breakfast together. I do all of my meds and sometimes I let her help so she can get used to it in her life. We always do something outside for the morning- play ball, take walks, play with the dogs, go on hikes. Then lunch and nap time(for both of us). We have Busch Gardens passes for the year, so we usually go to busch Gardens and spend the afternoon there. Then back to home, dinner and lplaytime. Sunday we go to church, go out for lunch and spend more time playing school or reading in the afternoon. Then we take her home to her mothers and I do any left over homework. Then work the next day and the cycle starts over

yulia,
last year I had a lot of time on my hands while i was figuring out how my life would play out with my vision. I decided to do something productive with my time by volunteering at the Division of Blind Services in Tampa. I worked for the Lighthouse For The Blind teaching blind high school kids how to cook. They were in a transition program supplied by the Lighthouse that trained tham how to dress for success, how to interview, how to present yourelf while working, how to write a resume and how to cook if living alone. OIt was awesome and the most rewarding volunteer work I have ever done. I also do volunteer work every once in a while with alcoholics and I will be starting next year (hopefully) soing either paid or volunteer work with special ed children since that is what my degree is going to be in.

After reading everyone’s daily entries, I seem to be lacking a large social life.  I love my family, but I miss the previous ease of studying and getting things accomplished. I did not realize how much I could have completed in my education. Although, I do have to point out that it is because of my children that I have an understanding of what I need to do with my life. Previously, I had focused on the title and the potential income, not the personal fulfillment of what my career could provide for me.

Today is hump day! I always wake up very happy on this day because I know that the week is almost done. I am especially happy on this day because two days from now, I will be on a beautiful beach in the Dominican Republic. I woke up at 6 am like I always do and ran 2 miles. It was a nice morning in Tampa. I love waking up before everyone else does in my house, turn on my iPod, grab my sneakers and hit the pavement. After that, I make breakfast for my sons and they go to school. I jump in the shower and head to work. I don't live far from work nor do I take a highway so I have no traffic complaints unlike most of my co-workers. The only thing about the morning commute that I don't like is the lack of interesting morning shows in Tampa, so I always connect my iPod and jam to some music. That is my typical morning. At work I try to make it exciting by doing different things aside from my job function. I join different clubs and organizations just to keep things new and interesting.
This week we are celebrating Hispanic Heritage at my job. I am President of the Tampa Chapter of the Ford Hispanic Network and this year our organization decided to do it really big. Today we had a very first dance showcase. A couple of our members and I put together dance routines to showcase the Latino culture. We had two performances and they were both a huge success. I just love to see the excitement in people's faces when they are introduced to something new.
After work, I spend little time in traffic. I head home to get dinner started. Tonight we are having stew chicken, white rice and beans. I try to cook a Spanish dish at least once a week. My sons play sports and try to eat very healthy so they only get one day of traditional Spanish cuisine. The rest of the days we eat veggies and grilled lean meats. At about 6:45 pm, I get ready to take the kids to baseball practice. Once I dropped them off, I come back home clean up the kitchen, prepared the lunches for Thursday and started packing my suitcase. At 8:30 pm I got in the car and picked up the boys at the field. As they showered, I sat in front of the tv with my laptop open ready to connect with friends on Facebook and chat with my sister. The boys and I decided just to relax together and watch the show Modern Family. We find that show very funny. My sons find Sophia Velgara very beautiful. The boys made their nightly call to my husband in Texas and at 10 pm, I logged into Blackboard to complete some of my homework. I read half of the assignment and decided to leave the rest and quiz for tomorrow. It is about 12:35 am and I am just now finishing up my blog.
I will get up at 6 am and start things all over again. There are some things that I will do differently but in a nutshell, my day is pretty exciting. And everyday I look forward to a new adventure.

I am going to pull out my violin as well. I am a single mother that is attending school full time as well as working for the largest retailer on the planet:Walmart. The pay is awful and the conditions are not as good or safe as one thinks. I have a 20 year son who is in college (second year) that I keep tabs on. He has Sickle Cell disease. I have a 18 year old daughter who has entered her first year of college this year. Yeah! She decided to move out and stay in the Hawk Landing apartment while attending school. I am not quite settled with that yet.I have a 26 year old daughter that lives in Memphis, Tennesse who is a hairstylist/ College student. I am thankful at this time that no one has brought me any news of grandchildren. Stay tuned. My day normally starts at 4:30 in the morning because my body clock functions that way.I go through the house making sure that everything is in order and check on my son. He suffers with occasional sleep apnea and I have to go in the room at times to make sure he is still with me. I begin to prepare for work. Most of the time I have to be there at 7 am. I have to deal with rude and hateful customers at time as well as crazy co-workers. I love them! We all come from a dysfunctional family. Walmart is mine.I have classes in the afternoon on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Some days I have to give my son the car so he can get to class. I catch the bus on those days. I have two online classes as well. Oh, did I mention I just found out I am degree watch so now I have to get ready for my transfer to USF? Am I ready? Now my computer has died and I have to try to save enough money to get a new one . Oh I am also trying to save enough money for a car as well. The plight of the single mother continues. Now, at the end of the day I cook most of the time for me and my son . I want to make sure he has least one decent meal during the dat. he's my little rastaman!

To Lauren, Jayme, and others who are mothers out there. All that we do is not in vain. At the eary age of 16 I took the title of mother with pride becuse my grandfather and father put that in my mind. I have learned to take the bumps in the road as a journey. We have much to learn. Keep your spirits up. You have much to offer to the world. Sometimes I have to take a little time to my self, like going to the movies alone. Try it! You need to make an appointment with yourself sometimes. It is really obligatory that you do. You know how the you the teenagers say "Do you." Never loose so much of yourself that you dont even have time to paint your nails. Got it? I know I do. Like for example this weekend I am going to Memphis to see my mommy and daddy. Oh theres a party too! I dare not miss that.

You know Dr. Smith I think we needed this.

On my school days I wake up around 8:30 and get ready to go to class. I’ll clean myself up and eat a quick breakfast if I have the time and or remember it. I then get in my car and head to class. This is the bad part of my day most of the time depending on how bad traffic is. It’s not too bad most of the time until I get on the highway, where I’ve run into some accidents that have slowed things down or just people not being able to drive. Once I get to school I usually go straight to my first class. Sometimes I’ll stop by the computer lab to check my school e-mail. After my first class I have to head straight to my second as it starts right after my first class ends. After I get out of my second class I head home, which can turn into a bad trip again depending on traffic. Once I get home I usually get something to eat and either watch T.V. or surf the net for a half an hour or so before I start tackling the days homework. This usually takes me anywhere from an hour and a half to three or four hours depending on how unlucky I was with my class assignments hitting around the same time. After I finish the school work I need to finish for that particular day I go about the house doing whatever I need to do such as cleaning things up for my parents and such. By this time its around five or six in the evening and dinner isn’t to far off. After dinner I’ll usually spend some time with my parents and brother either talking or watching some T.V. before retiring to my room to goof around on the internet before going to bed.

In response to Lauren. I myself have been looking for a job up until recently. I don’t know why but for some reason this semester seems to have me working a lot harder with school work despite this semester having a lighter workload than normal. Still, good luck with the job hunt, with the way things are right now its very hard to find people hiring let alone getting the jobs. When I was out job hunting most of the answers I got were that people were accepting applications but had no plans to hire in the near future. So again good luck.

I don't necessarily have a typical day. Every evening after work I have varoius things to do. But it usually goes like this:
I wake up at 5 to be sure my youngest daughter gets to the bus stop by 540am. She goes to a magnet school and catches 2 buses back and forth. (her school isn't that far, but her best friend rides the bus too so she'd rather ride the bus than have her mommy take her, Oh the joys of a ninth grader!). Then i come back and get myself ready for my day, I have to be at work at 645. Of course, kiss my honey he also heads off to work too. I have been an LPN for 9 years, I get report from the night nurse and I have a cup of coffee for the day. Every now and again I eat breakfast on work days not usually. I love my schedule especially to be in the healthcare field, it is Monday thru Friday 7-3. I check for what is going on with my patients for the day(appts, test, activities). I work in rehab/long term care so I get to know my patients and families well since some have been with me for years. I give their medications and take care of what can sometimes seem like endless problem solving tasks but I absolutely love nursing so I wouldn't change it for world.
After work, again it varies but 3x a week I go to the gym. I have running around for the house to do. I help my daughter with homework. My husband and I share cooking detail so that also varies on if I cook that night or not. I also fit my study time in with all my classes in at least 45 minutes each class nightly. I have 3 this semester. On the weekends I try to my husband and I have at least one date night but I also make sure I spend time with my mom shopping some weekends or just cleaning and relaxing.

I can’t even imagine being pregnant at sixteen was like…lol I can’t even imagine what I would do in this point of my life either. I’m going crazy as it is. I give you much praise, it definitely is not easy to raise children whether prepared or not.

LaSandra, I definitely know your struggles. I too was a mom at 16, but fortunately I have 3 wonderful kids (21,19, and 14) who keep me proud. The two oldest in college, one here at HCC and the other at USF. I have recently learned I will be a grandma.(Still taking this one in). But I can 't complain I have good girls so it will work out. My only regret is not having completed all of my education earlier. It is too hard to have a family, work and go to school. I did meet the most amazing man a few years ago, and now we are married. So just hold on tight things do get better!

I am currently a full-time student with two jobs, so a general day usually consists of mostly school and work. On a typical day I wake up, start my coffee, and make my breakfast. I usually allow myself enough time to relax and watch TV before I need to get ready to go into work. After watching a little TV and drinking my coffee, I shower and get ready for the day. I generally work during the days, but my schedule for one of my jobs is very flexible. My first job allows me to work on schoolwork in my free time, so I do a lot of school in that time. My second job is strictly work so I either do school before or after work depending on when I go in. After my second job I go back to the apartment to be with my cats and boyfriend. If I need to do school after work I do that first. Afterwards, my boyfriend and I eat dinner, clean the apartment, relax, and watch TV. That is my typical day.

A usual day for me consists of waking up at 7 in the morning, throwing some clothes on, and hopping on the interstate of 45 minutes to get to calculus class at 8. It is very regular for me to be stuck in traffic every morning. After the class I come back home to work on homework for an hour our two. At this point I'm just trying to wake up and be alert as I can. Then I go to work for around 5 or 6 hours. I'm a pharmacy technician at CVS. It is a pleasant experience for the most part but I do get tired of being yelled at by costumers for things that are not CVS's fault, like how much their insurance charges for their medication. If United Health Care increases the copay for their blood pressure medicine that they've been taking "before I was even born" then it's automatically my fault. I'm a pharmacy major right now but I'm seriously reconsidering. After that I drive another 45 minutes back to HCC to do an evening class. I'm pretty tired at this point and just want it to be over with. I drive my 4th 45 minute drive of the day back home where my wife and I will go out because we're both too tired to cook. After that I come home and do online homework until 1AM. I stop when I can't go on anymore and I flop into my bed again. Generally my days are very exhausting. I'm taking 19 credit hours this semester and I'm working 30 hours a week. So busy.

That sounds so ridiculous. I don't feel like venting anymore after reading that. Good luck to you. I'm sorry that you have to endure that, I know wouldn't be able to. Hearing your situation puts everything into perspective for me, I have it better than I thought.

Once I complained as well when I was told I had to pay $78 for an ear pain reliever. I could tell that the pharmacist had heard the complaint a lot. So I quickly added "I don't think I'll buy it, thanks and I'm sorry!"
I think he was kind of mad at me, but I did not expect a $78 co-pay for a tiny tiny bottle... :))

I went home and took aspirin.

I am a full time student and I also work full time. My work schedule ranges from working one of theses three shifts: 7am-3pm, 3pm-11pm, or 11pm-7am. I work any one of those shifts five days a week. I work at a dispatch center that takes calls from many of the hospitals in the Tampa Bay area and mostly dispatch messages between nurses and Dr.'s that round at the different hospitals. In the morning (if I'm not working that is) I tend to sleep in late, I'm a big fan of sleep and like to get 9-10 hours of sleep, which is rare. I start my day off with either coffee or green tea, and then a cigarette. A bad habit I know, and one day soon I hope it is a habit that I quit! I'm taking two classes on campus that meet Monday and Wednesday night from 5:00pm-8:30pm and I am also taking two online classes. So most of mine time is either spent at work, at school, or working different projects for my classes. Depending on what night it is I may try to catch one of my favorite TV shows.
Other than that I honestly do not have too much free time on my hands. Other than running errands, laundry, going to the gym, and detailing my Pontiac Solstice I really do not have time to do a whole lot more.

Starting off in a new city is hard for anyone especially in this area. I moved to the Tampa area about 5 years ago from PA and it took me a good year to actually remember how to get around. Still to this day I have issues with driving in the downtown Tampa area. As for your housing situation I wish you the best of luck. I too would feel the same if I was living in that seemingly awkward situation. And someone eating your food that you put in the refrigerator is highly annoying! Best of luck to you and your family!

Well let’s see what a typical day looks like for me. Well I Get up at 6:00 am in the morning to get my two daughters and myself ready for school in the Moring. It’s takes a lot of work to get my sex year old out of bed she love her sleep. My nine year old loves school she is ready to go; most of the time before me. I get them dress make them breakfast and then I take a showers I usually take out our clothes the night before. After I shower I get dress make sure they got their home work because they always seem to forget if it’s in their book bag. We get in the car and it’s off to school this is usually my worst part of the day; getting everyone where they need to be on time. After I drop them off at 9:00 I leave their school to get to mine at 9:30. If I get there early I would buy myself breakfast and go to class I have two classes a day that end at 12:00 noon. After class I would go the library to get some studying in for 2 hours then I head home to change. After I change I get myself some lunch at 3:00 and then I am off to the gym to work out our play basketball for 2 hours. To me the gym is the best part of my day it relaxes me. After working out I take a shower and then it’s off to pick up my daughters from afterschool to take them gymnastic at and tennis at five. I drop them off and race home to make dinner if I didn’t make dinner we would have take out or we would eat out. After putting dinner together I pick my daughters up at 6:30 bring them home for dinner after they eat thy take a shower and do homework. When the home work is all done they get about an hour of TV and then it’s bed time at 8:30 or 9:00. After putting them to bed I get some homework done then watch some TV and then it’s off to be to do it all over the next day.

Hello,

My typical day is different depending on the week.

I wake up around nine in the morning since I work in the hospitality industry and do not finish until very late.

The first thing I do is make myself breakfast and take my vitamins. I usually pick up or clean up my apartment from the night before. Afterwards, I sit back and relax while I check all email accounts (personal, school, bank, face book).

Soon after I check my accounts I go for a run and then proceed to do my hour workout routine before getting into my daily affairs. After a comforting shower, I then start to study or run earns before I leave for work. I have a morning class on Mondays and Wednesdays that I also have to schedule around those days.

Overall I really do not have a “free day” because I work fulltime and go to school; however, I enjoy staying busy because it keeps me out of trouble.

I am a working, full time college student with no idea what a typical day looks like. I currently have a job and I am taking four online classes, and I am also engaged. My typical day has nothing in common with every other day of the week. I currently have a few items of my day that are planned and I know for sure will happen. Which is work, sleep, eat, and homework. I am just never very sure in what order those will occur. I am employed at a daycare and I absolutely love working with children but because of school and my ever changing semesters I cannot have a classroom of my own. Most of the time my day starts out getting up around 7:30 or 8:00. I get dressed and grab some breakfast, make my lunch and head out the door on my way to work. I work from about 9 until 630, and then come home to my family who is kind enough to make dinner for me. I eat with them at our kitchen table and then we help out with the dishes, and then I do a little homework and then I am off to bed. In between my break time at work I try and do a little wedding planning here and there. I long for the day that I know exactly what lies in front of me. Working at a daycare we are always dealing with ratios and that means if a teacher becomes sick then someone else has to be called in to fill their spot for the day. Which means sometimes I have plans for the day and then I get called at 6 am to come in to work early. But I do not mind because I need the money seeming as how were planning a wedding.

I am unemployed, but in school fulltime. As everyone on here is saying, this "created" recession makes us all bite the bullet. I actually live on my own, and since my job laid me off, I was able to get unemployment. Finding a job is around where I live in clearwater is actually really hard. No one except "BIG COMPANIES" are hiring. But hey, that's the system they're creating. Work where we say, do what we say to do. Did I mention I have a 4 year old daughter. No. Ok, well I have a 4 year old daughter, and lack of finances has really taken it's toll. So average day, survive. My goal is to finish school, but then again, what jobs will be available in a few years if this continues? So I wake up and do some exercise, usually for about an hour. Have some coffee. Go down to the library because I can't afford the internet from the MONOPOLY of the business that's at work, and look for jobs and do school work. My daughter is a handful, and she keeps me really busy, ALL the time. Sometimes I don't have time to finish my schoolwork because I don't have the internet and my daughter needs a ton of attention, which is the least I can do for her. But every day is different. That's what makes life interesting, right? I have to cook, clean, take care of bills, schoolwork, all the while taking care of my daughter. It's a little extra for me because I don't feed her ANY junk food. I only cook good meals for her. She complains sometimes that I don't give her cake and candy like her mom does, but when she's a little older and healthy, she'll thank me for it.

I call myself a "stay at home daughter." I do the same things as a stay at home mom, but I am the sister/daughter in the house. I moved back home when I had my daughter at 19. She is 16 months old and quickly becoming a handful. As blessed as I am, I do not work outside of the house; just in it. My typical day starts at 7 a.m. I go straight to the coffee pot and wake myself up a little bit. My daughter is usually up at this time as well, so I get started on breakfast. Around 7:30 I wake my brothers up and get the ready for school. We are out of the door by 8:15. I attend classes on campus on Mondays and Wednesdays so if it is one of these days, they get dropped of at the bus stop and the baby and I are off to the babysitters. If it is not one of these days, I usually drive the kids to school. The baby and I then take care of some grocery shopping some mornings or we just go straight home. At his point, I do not stick to a strict schedule. At any point during now and 5 I have taken care of all the house duties, worked on homework for my six classes, cooked dinner, run errands and whatever else is on the list for the day. Around six my mom is home and the kids are in from outside we eat dinner. I then work on homework with the youngest brother and make sure he is good to go. At this point the sun isn't beating so hard, so the baby and I go for a bike ride or walk. We come home, hang out for a little bit and it is time for showers and bedtime. It is usually around 8:30-9 by now and it is what I call mommy time. I turn on the TV and watch my taped shows and just do whatever I please! :)

My day starts at different times depending on the day of the week. Being that I am a server, I work late on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Because of this I may not be awake during the day until later around eleven or noon. On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, I will be up much earlier around nine. The day I recorded was Tuesday and I got up at nine. I had eggs and some toast for breakfast with a cup of coffee. From nine-thirty until about eleven, I worked on blackboard completing various homework assignments. Around eleven, I drove to work and picked up my paycheck. I then drove across town to Bank of America to deposit my check. After this I went to the grocery store to pick up something to make for dinner. I went home after this and read for a while. Around two I had a video chat conference with some of my friends down in Tampa. Around three I put a rack of ribs on the grill for dinner and waited for my family to get home from school and work. Once everyone got home, we ate dinner and then I decided to go for a bike ride down in the park by the lake. By the time I got home, it was around seven-thirty and getting pretty dark. I put a movie on the television and played on my laptop for a while. Around ten I went to bed. This was an average day for me when I am not working.

Hello,
This week’s posting will be my shortest since now a days; my typical day is well very typical.

I wake up around 6:30 am during the week to get ready and get to work by 8:00 am. Work time is the same old work time, putting out small fires and answering emails or assisting someone in resolving an issue. Every now and then we have work activities that promote are exciting or conducing to learning something new other than that is up to one to stay current and look forward continued education. That is way I take college classes: to stay sharp and catch up with the times, to think efficiently and effectively, to seek further professional opportunities and achieve someday the “American Dream.”

I get out of work around 5:00pm, many times later. I attend a science night class once a week from 5:30pm to 8:45pm; needless to say, I return home very tired these days and all that I want to do is chill out. The rest of the evenings, I try to get myself to the gym, devote the time to study for this class or catch up with errands and planning.

I devote the weekends to myself and to accomplish things that provide my life with excitement and unique opportunities, such as visiting a museum exhibit, go to a state park, go to a music venue, and go to dinner or the movie or just to get out of the city.

The best times in my life are when I am on vacation, because I get to travel either out of state or out of the country. It is always very uplifting and a one of a kind experience.

I’ve been sick since last Thursday, so waking up for work this morning was difficult. I slept in as long as possible (9:30), then started my “get-ready-fast” routine: took a quick shower, put on minimal makeup, woke up my taxi-driver (also known as my boyfriend), and brushed my teeth. Off to work I go, arriving just before 10:30. I work in a restaurant which means I could complain for hours. Every shift, I deal with unbearable people who are always out trying to get their meal for free. So from 11, when we open, until I get off at 5pm, I grin and bear it, all for $4.19/hour plus my, on average 5-10% tips (thanks to the “classy” clientele). Don’t get me wrong, I love serving, but the corporate restaurant chain I work for and it’s location are not enjoyable. After work I went home, showered, and decided tasty soup was in order to make me feel better. My boyfriend and I drove up the road to Olive Garden to enjoy a nice meal together. After dinner we came home and both began on some homework, and will soon be getting to bed. Overall, today was uneventful.

Some people went on to explain their week, so what the heck, here I go... My week is never the same, other than Monday and Wednesday when I have class. I work various shifts the remaining days, save Saturday, my only guaranteed day off to get homework and housework done. In between all that I find time to socialize with friends or drive home (about an hour and a half) to visit with my family.

Dr. Smith ~ I enjoyed hearing about your day. Capital punishment is an interesting topic, I would have loved to be in class for your discussion on it. Will this topic come up here on our blog? Does France have capital punishment? Does to vary from provence to provence as it does from state to state here in the US?

Right now I'm currently an unemployed full time student. I work with my father for about three days out the week with his lawn service. On days I don't work with my dad, I wake up about 6am(which is everyday) and cook breakfast. After enjoying my meal I usually make out a schedule for my day. I'm an early person so I like to handle all my tasks and errands right away in the morning so towards the evening I can relax. I always check my school assignments online and I figure how much work I can complete for the day. I have 3 online classes, so I like to do a couple of assignments from each class every morning to stay ahead of schedule for the week. After completing my class duties and any other house work around the house. I jump in the car and go run any errands I have that day. Next week I have 3 interviews for jobs so I definitely will have to stop by the mall and pick up some shirts to wear. In the afternoon I pick up my nieces and nephews from school and I take them to my mothers house. My mother's house is a family meet spot in the afternoon, so I usually hang out there for awhile and enjoy my family. My girlfriend gets off work around 6pm and I usually hang out with her for the rest of the night. On the weekdays this is my daily life. On the weekends I never know what I will be doing except Sundays. On Sunday I watch football all day during the NFL season.

Yari you have motivated me to start including a daily jog or walk for myself. Ten years ago I suffered a devastating knee injury from playing basketball. Over the course of the ten years I have sprained my knee several times. Personally I believe my knee injures so quickly from the lack of conditioning I give it. Within the last month I have taken about 3 walks 3 miles each, but I'm not consistent. I do it for 2 days in a row and won't go again until about a week. Out of fear of walking with a cane when I'm older I'm determine to get my knee and health in top shape.

On a typical day I usually wake up and go straight to the gym. At the gym I lift weights and then do some running on the treadmill. After the gym, I get some food to eat before I start working on any school work I have. On the week days I usually work from 4 P.M. to 11 P.M., and on the weekends I usually work 12 P.M. to 11 P.M. After work, I am pretty much exhausted at that point. During this time I usually eat and then watch television until I fall asleep.

I am a full-time student and I am employed full-time as a Manager for Foot Locker Inc. On a normal day I wake up get dressed for either a 9-5 shift or a 12-9 shift. I eat breakfast, check the mail, and head to work. I might also play a little NBA 2K11 if I get ready a little early. If I have homework that does not require internet access, I usually finish it at work if there are no other tasks to do, or if the store is slow.

After my shift, I play basketball with my friends to stay in shape, then I go home, eat dinner, and watch a little TV with my girlfriend. I finish up on homework I did not complete at work, then I go to bed to get rest for the next day.

An average day? Though my life has changed substantially and constantly in the last ten years, the truth is the same: there is never enough hours in the day! I typically get up about 5 in the morning to work out and enjoy some quiet time before getting ready for work. I love coffee, yogurt and the newspaper in the morning.

Soon thereafter, I prepare for work and get my children ready for their nanny time. My wife and I work together, so our children go to a nanny. We drop them off and head on to work.

Work for us is amazing, even though it can be a lesson in patience. We work at a cell phone call center and it is terrifying/hilarious the things that we hear sometimes. After a very full 9 hour shift with breaks and a lunch, we head home to get our children.

With kids in tow, we head home for dinner and family time. We review our school and try to enjoy the most that we can out of the day. By the time 10 rolls around, we are both back in bed and we get ready to start over again.

It may not be the most extravagant of lifestyles, but I can say that I am satisfied and content with it. That and the knowledge when I finish up my degree I can move on to international relations always is really exciting.

Needless to say, our days off are a run for the hills as we try to get everything done for the week in two days. It is still a much better lifestyle than when I was working overnight as a baker. I have never experienced the exhaustion that I did at that time and never, ever wish to go back to that again. As crazy full as my days are now, at least I can remember them when I lay my head down on my pillow. =-D

And to Yulia, I totally understand about being alone in a new city. My wife and I have moved all over the states and it always seems like we move from one place to another just as we are hitting the groove. In the process of our moves, we have also made enemies out of some of our best friends because of living with them. It is never an easy situation, and I know that it is terribly disturbing to be caught up in such a maelstrom. I wish you the best and hope things work out for you next semester. :-D

Thank you everyone and take care!

I wish a had a typical day to write about, but I'm so busy with work and school that everything blurs together. I'm in school full time with a couple heavy work-load classes and I work part time at Best Buy. Right now, we're gearing up at work for the holidays, so they've begun increasing my hours and adding a few more responsibilities to my list. I love working, but sometimes it can be overwhelming. Two of my supervisors will be taking their maternity leave soon, so I've been training to fill their shoes while they're gone. Just about everyday I wake up at seven and get oatmeal with some brown sugar and cinnamon; if it doesn't taste like a cookie, I won't eat it! Then I hustle to get out the door for work, or I can get started on my studies by either going to class or doing homework. If I work, I come home and do homework afterwards. Most of my day in devoted to school, but if I'm lucky I get to go for a jog in the evening to enjoy the wonderful weather we've been having. Thursdays are my favorite day of the week because I have a morning class and then I get to spend the rest of the day with my significant other. I love to go out, but I'm usually so tired that we lay around and watch movies. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday I work all day and sometimes wind up studying late into the night, like tonight.

It's really heartening to read everyone's stories and realize that I'm not the only person that feels stressed sometimes. We're all working very hard to accomplish something very worth accomplishing - a degree. I hope everyone here that's struggling can find the silver lining and keep themselves motivated. It's nice knowing we're not all alone.

I agree with Preston...once I get out of work I am exhausted. Sometimes I cannot stay up long enough to finish some of my homework. When I get a vacation day from work I usually sleep in. Sometimes I feel like I need to switch up my routine so that it does not get boring. I added football and gym to add some variety to my life.

My typical day consists of waking up in the morning, dropping my 10month old daughter Justine off to daycare and going to school. My daughter wakes me up around 6 am, so I don't need a alarm clock. After washing up and getting ready for the day I head out. I drop her off first and then I head to class in Ruskin by 8 am. After I leave Ruskin campus I head home to Temple Terrace, eat a little lunch and go over what I learned in class that day. I do my homework and do chores around the house. After that I pick up Justine from daycare by 5 pm. We run errands, stop by the grocery store, then we go home and cook dinner.

I just came back to read some of the comments and I am so proud of all the single mothers we have out there stretching those 24 hours to about 30 hours. I am not totally a single mother. I am married but my husband is always deployed, so I know how hard it is. I've also had a son who has beaten cancer, so I know how draining having a sick child is. I work, go to school and yet somehow manage to be there at all their games. It takes a lot to be a single mother and you ladies are doing it. My sons are now 14 years old, so I can tell you that it does get easier so just hold on. No violins, for me because I don't think its a sad thing. I will take some applause and I'll bow! lol!

Speaking of daily routine, I love this quote from Flannery O'Connor :

"If you do the same thing every day at the same time for the same length of time, you'll save yourself from many a sink. Routine is a condition of survival".
