Your next vacation....

The environmentalists around the globe are hailing Saturday’s “turn-off the lights for a full hour” a huge success as hundreds of millions of people from an Antarctic research base to the Pyramids of Egypt, from the Acropolis in Athens to Malaysia's landmark Petronas Twin Towers, from Times Square in NYC to Rome's ancient Colosseum, turned off the lights from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) announced a few hours ago that nations have a mandate to deal with climate change. Yvo de Boer, the United Nations Climate Change Secretariat interpreted the event as a mandate for an ambitious course to fight global warming. Representatives of 190 nations launched talks in Bonn last week, designed to culminate in Copenhagen in December, aiming at a new agreement to curb greenhouse gases beyond 2012, when provisions under the Kyoto Protocol expire.

So, what are these greenhouse gases exactly? Chemical compounds in the atmosphere act as “greenhouse gases” allowing sunlight to enter the atmosphere freely. When sunlight hits the Earth’s surface, some of it bounces back in space as infrared radiation. Or heat. According to the ENERGY INFORMATION ADMINISTRATION, greenhouse gases absorb this infrared radiation and trap the heat in the atmosphere. The agency explains some of these gases are found in nature (water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide), while others are human-made (industrial gases for example). The concern over the possible effects on the earth’s environment has fuelled a movement for sustainable development that aims at satisfying human needs without compromising the power of future generations to satisfy theirs.

Within this movement towards sustainable development, mass tourism with its excesses has come under attack while sustainable tourism is being embraced. Sustainable tourism is mainly comprised of agrotourism and ecotourism. Agrotourism means that you visit an agricultural area, stay in local guest houses, eat the local food and observe or even participate in the local rural activities. That is your vacation. No populated beaches (unless the farming area is close to sea), no big resort hotels, no your typical city night-life, fewer green house emissions. Ecotourism is visiting a beautiful natural site on which you impose the minimum damage. A gorge, a lake, a mountain, a river. Small guest houses, local cuisine, quietness, emphasis on preserving the nature, participation in sports the site facilitates (river/kayak, mountains/paragliding). Again, no noise, no urban life style, no resort facilities. Again, fewer green house emissions.

Simple stuff. Not for everyone. Unless of course it becomes fashionable.

If you were to go on a vacation, would you opt for mass tourism with its comforts or would you consider agrotourism/ ecotourism?

It depends, i like to be around people, but i like to be with just a select few also. I would prefer to be in a public area where i have the things i like to do around me, rather than just being in nature. Dont get me wrong i love nature, but i want the goodies that you can find in places where hundreds of ppl can be found.

If I had a choice, I would prefer to do the ecotourism. Enjoying and admiring nature's simple beauties such as lakes, rivers and the greens are just as lavish as going to a beach, amusement park or resort. It's just classified under a different type of entertainment yet it's the same enjoyment.

On the other hand, I do love the resorts, beaches, and islands...ECT and a vacation to those places would supersede any other place. Considering the benefits of ecotourism and the prevention of pollution is far greater when dealing with the preservation of mother earth and the longevity of our own planet.

I would take the agrotourism or the ecotourism trip without a doubt or hesitation.
I've done the resort trip. It is beautiful and wonderful to be pampered and sit around all day. But it became boring very quickly.
I'm not one to sit on vacations. I enjoy meeting the 'locals', talking over coffee, and exploring. I also enjoy being outside. I love the feeling you have after a hard day of work outside. That is very relaxing for me and also helps me relieve stress. So why not combine all of it and enjoy agrotourism or ecotourism?
Our church has a program that allows you to go and help a Missionary with a project during a vacation. I think that is an excellent idea. I hope to be able to do that one day.
I didn't realize that you could take the same kind of vacation to an agriculture area for a vacation. I think it is a great idea also.
So I could actually save the planet and enjoy my vacation....
Where do I go to sign up?

Wow , this is truly a different topic, one that I haven’t thought about until now. Personally I would choose agrotourism/ecotourism . Lets start with the statement “Unless of course it becomes fashionable” That’s Americans problems right now, they don’t involve themselves in anything positive unless its linked with a negative (fashionable approach i.e. do as others do in the world contrary to your own thoughts. Why would it take fashion to wake up America in see we are having a big problem with global warming in such changes as agrotourism/ecotourism could help conserve the energy we already use to much off. Agrotourism doesn’t sound like a big deal anyway. “Visiting agricultural area, staying in local guest houses, eat the local food and observe or even participate in the local rural activities”. Sounds educational and a change in life which provides different aspects in life that creates real personality and as Dan Baker would say “feel-it-your-soul satisfaction. Same can go for ecotourism , just think of “a beautiful natural site on which you impose the minimum damage. A gorge, a lake, a mountain, a river. Small guest houses, local cuisine, quietness, emphasis on preserving the nature, participation in sports the site facilitates”.Sounds like a peace of mind all wrapped up in a vacation just for you that produces a safer environment for you and your future generation to come. So I say Go Green…….

It depends on the kind of vacation I was in the mood for. I have had the opportunity to experience both types of vacations, and have to report they are both fabulous in their own way. If I am looking for a vacation that I wanted to relax and escape life's stresses, I would definitely opt for the ecotourism. On the other hand, sometimes you just need to get out and have fun. When life calls for this, I would have to go with the typical, heavily populated beach vacation. It all just depends on what I need at the time I get to plan a vacation.

Agrotourism means that you visit an agricultural area, stay in local guest houses, eat the local food and observe or even participate in the local rural activities. As far as anything that has to do with agriculture I am all for it. I am a person that enjoy to learn new things and that may be i will have sacrifice understanding that it takes alot of effort in taking the time to learn the unfamiliar. IU may like or may hate I dont know because I never been there.

Ecotourism is visiting a beautiful natural site on which you impose the minimum damage. A gorge, a lake, a mountain, a river. Small guest houses, local cuisine, quietness, emphasis on preserving the nature, participation in sports the site facilitates (river/kayak,mountains/paragliding)
Now, I love to enjoy nature, peace and tranquility I am at that age where nature and tranquility makes me happy and that is what I enjoy doing I dont hang out or party but I am all for a nice weekened at a gorgeous town that is out of my norm and just enjoy what nature has to offer to me and what the town has for me to see.

Well I have never been on a vacation in my life and I am 31 years old. So I dont even know what a vacation is like. That is a goal of mine once I finish school and get a good job I will be able to afford. As far as going site seeing, going on vacation that includes exotic beaches and much more, and to go to a place were hiking is involved or anything that offers me a time away from home I will love it and enjoy it. I am a very grateful person and appreciate life everyday and nature is a part of me. Nature is so amazing and learning about or earth, deep sea ocean, and space is something that I enjoy learning.

I would go mass tourism just because it would seem better. You get to go with a big group of people who obviously share the same interest as you. You get to see a lot more stuff with the group. The best part is that you get to meet a lot of different people. You get to hang with them get to know them and become friends with them. To that is pretty cool because I like to meet new people. A lot of time in mass tourism the price can be a little cheaper then if you just plan it your self. The group thing gets a lot more discounts then if you are just paying to go by yourself.

I encourage tourism because it gives people a chance to enjoy other parts of the world. Some people want to go to the beach and others want to go to a nature park, people like different things. If it wasn't for tourism I would never have known about Florida and moved down here so I wouldn't be for ecotoursim.

I do not know both options are very considerable but at best with most vacation spots i would definitely have to take that route of enjoying the city itself like going out on the town having fun dining in the places that people of that area have recommended just to really get the full i guess "tourist" effect of that vacation spot, bbbuuuttt on the other hand it all depends on where it is your going to, who your going with, for how long, and for what reason. its always good to relax and enjoy just the simple natural things where it may seem boring its soothing and a more care free type of vacation then.

If one day I ever get the opportunity to go on vacation, I would definitely opt for agro tourism/ ecotourism. For some reason and I can’t figure out why, the leaders of our world either don’t care enough or are just plain relaxed on halting the destruction of our environment. The planet is our home! No amount of money can buy that back, once we have destroyed it its gone forever and guess what so are we. Cleaning our planet and using clean energy should be our highest priority and I definitely feel that we should all opt for a cleaner and greener lifestyle whether we are on vacation or anything else that we do.

in all honesty, as much as i know the positivity of the eco an agrotourism, i would have to say i would much prefer the resorts and beaches etc. if im going on a vacation, it was for me to enjoy myself to the max. clubs, parties, restaurants, and the sites are what entertains me. but in some cases i would enjoy argotourism. i would love to visit places like the grand canyon and niagra falls and other natural beauties of that nature. it all really depends on ur taste and what type of vacation your looking for. but all in all, i would prefer the crowded beaches and resorts.

I would prefer the ecotourism. I am actually looking into taking a trip to Acadia National Park in Maine this year, preferrably in the summer. There are hotels, but there are also small bed and breakfast hotels which are run very conservatively. Acadia has lakes, the ocean, mountains and forest all in the same area. You can take a boat trip, use bicycles (which is encouraged) to go around the park. You can go hiking in any of the many trails available. The only real greenhouse gases we would most likely be using in this vacation is the flight up there. Although as Floridians we live in one of the main vacation spots in the US, I would really like to take these kinds of trips to see other parts of the country.

I can see where each option has its value. There will be times that an ecotourism vacation would be ideal, other times nothing will do other than a white sand beach. I believe there are other ways to deal with the greenhouse effect without inconveniencing people so much. The best idea I have heard is to paint the rooftops white of 100 major cities and pave the roads in light grey instead of black asphalt. What a fantastic idea!! This would stop the absorption of so much heat by the earth. This could be done over time as roads need repaving or our house rooftop needs replacing. The roof would not have to be white, but the lighter the colour, the better for the environment. To read the original article by Alex Felsinger go to the following link - http://sustainablog.org/2008/09/10/painting-rooftops-white-would-slow-global-warming/

me personally i would prefer mass tourism i like to meet people and enjoy the festivities with a brand array of people thats the beauty of a vacation i really dont like the wilderness or dont prefer lakes and all that kind of stuff. i play sports alot and there is nothing like new competition in different parts of the country or world for that matter. also i just like meeting new people girls especially thats my nature so i would go for the mass vacation you can always have quite time with your family at night but during the day you can mingle and enjoy your vacation which is the beauty of a vaction to get away from the norm and relax and do things different for a week every year.

I would definitely choose ecotourism. My husband and I travel all the time and own a timeshare through Wyndham Vacation Resorts, my husband loves it as do I on occasion, but I would much rather be in a small town or village. I would love the homeyness of the vacation and learn about a differnt way of life. I would most definitely go participate in their daily activities and enjoy the peace and quiet of nature. My husband on the other hand hates nature, and enjoys luxury and he usually has the final say so me being able to take an ecotourism vacation is very slim. Maybe one day :)

Honestly i really would prefer t have both becausei think that it is a time and a place for everything. I do love being around alot of people and enjoying expensive resorts and laying out on the beach and having fun. It is just something that we all can enjoy and also the treatment that you recieve and benefits of being in the ecotourism. but on the other hand i like the idea of the agrotourism as well because sometimes you just want to be away from all of the noise and embrace nature for what it is and realize that this is what life is all about. Even though both are good choices of what a vaction should be i really feel that agrotourism is the best way to go.

I would certainly take in to consideration taking a trip to an agroculture are. I would like to be apart of a tribes tradition. Or even eat the foods they eat even if it is not to the United States standards it is always good to be open to new things and experiment as long as no one gets hurt. With the way our society is supposedly we accept everyone. It would be nice to be accepted into a world that is unknown to me.

I already had the opportunity to do an ecotourism trip to Colombia; I stayed for two weeks at my grandparent ranch. It was a very adventurous and trilling experience that I would like to do again. Working close to nature and learning all of the different traditions and culture was a memorable experience. I was born in Colombia so this is the only country where I can experience this. If had the chance of taking an ecotourism trip to a different country and to explore nature and learn the culture of the country, I wouldn’t hesitate to go. I am very eco person so I believe this is a great idea of allowing tourist of having a magnificence and unforgettable experience close to nature.

If I were to go on a vacation, I would like to take a vacation to a mass tourism. As a business major, I would like to see different parts of the world and see what is going on now days in busy cities, busy tourism, etc. I’m always willing to meet new people and see different places. As a part of the younger generation, I don’t know many people who would chose agrotourism over mass tourism. Even during spring break, I don’t know anyone who went to go see the nature. But I know a lot of people who went to different cities and different states to see the city life. I’m sure when I get older, I would probably chose agrotourism over mass tourism since I would want to go somewhere nice, quiet and peaceful.

Sickabyss said...

Ecotourism sounds fun. Having some peace and quiet would be very nice. I also like to meet new people and see what they do for fun. I might consider agrotourism. I would have to somehow combine the two. Solitude gets boring and so does participating in local activities, unless they are some very interesting activities. For Ecotourism I would choose a lake or mountain for the quiet or the snow. I have no idea where I would go for agrotourism. Someone should post some suggestions I’m interested. If I found a balance between the two I might try it I think I would be entertaining.

I would without a doubt choose a place to enjoy myself, to be honest i wouldnt really care about the greenhouse effect, or about nature like that; if i am spending money on a vacation i want to make sure i am getting everything i possibly can that is fun out of it. If that means going to the resorts and doing being around alot of people then so be it, if that is called being selfish then call me greedy too. I wouldnt want to go to a place and just be secluded to one thing and not be around people all because people are trying to conserve, conserve some where else, and not on my time or money. It sounds really mean and selfish but if i'm busting my butt to make that money, and want to spend it on a vacation well spent you can't blame me for that, and if that means not worrying about the nature then so be it.

The most famous agrotourism destinations are wine-making regions. Napa valley in California, South France, Italy. I believe it is fascinating to participate or learn the wine making process or the cheese making process.
People are getting the wrong idea about agrotourism. Most of these places are very close to populated areas, so the absolute commotion is only a couple of miles away from the absolute quietness.

I wouldn't mind doing ecotourism or agrotourism. I would like to do them all, including mass tourism. I would consider the time of year, weather, and even occasion before choosing which I would like to do. The reason I am not leaning towards any one in paticular is because I barely ever vacation; the time that I do, truthfully, I don't concentrate on whether I am helping the environment or not, I just want to have a good time and come back home with great pictures. Though ecotourism helps out the planet, mass tourism helps out the economy; Some has to give for the other to gain. I just believe in MODERATION.

If I am going on a grand vacation and paying for all of it I would not want to sleep in a tent all the time and eat other peoples amazing food of monkey brains. My idea of a vacation is having a good while not having to do anything or worry what life stresses are left when you get back home. I believe that staying in a grand hotel and being waited on with an awesome view from your hotel room is a vacation. Not sleeping in bunk beds in the middle of some remote town and being eaten alive by bugs. I think people should enjoy there vacation. And I also believe that global warming can be fixed by us and we can help the environment more from choosing to recycle and etc. There are other ways to helping out the environment instead of choosing an electricity free vacation.

It is hard to say where I would vacation. I like the idea of big luxury resorts where you can just step out of the room and be on the beach. Then hit up the fine dining and cuisine at night, while participating in the night life of that city. At the same time I am all for agrotourism/ecotourism. I think that sightseeing is very nice, I love nature it is beautiful. However I am not one for camping. So even though the thought of it is nice I would much rather stay in a hotel or resort, and then just drive to these magnificent sights, and kayak, go boating or hiking.

NotOfThisWorld said...

A cabin in a mountain or a hut on a beach is a luxurious suite to me. I believe all the high-rise hotels should be removed on all the beaches; it takes away from the beauty of nature and goes against the whole purpose why people vacation- to get away from the city, to see nature as it is with no interferences, peace and quiet. It is pretty sad when it is nosier and brighter at the beach because of night life and tourism than in one's own neighborhood or normal routine. A vacation is to get away from the normal setting and routine. I think it would be cool to put beach huts that were powered by the sun, and once the sun went down that is it; people would just hang out around camp fires and talk- no microwaves or TVs. This would cut down on greenhouse emissions which will ensure future generations to see and enjoy what we have seen. We do not realize what we have until we lose it. By removing all the high-rise hotels, there would be a higher demand, so people would have to make reservations then maybe people would not take for granted what we have. I am for ecotourism all the way which is visiting a beautiful natural site, imposing the minimum damages: small guest houses, local cuisine, quietness, emphasis on preserving nature, participation in sports the site facilitates, no noise, no urban life style, no resort facilities, and fewer green house emissions. Let’s get back to the old ways of living.

NotOfThisWorld said...

Having both will only last so long before one has to give. Night life( fine dining, cuisine, and money) or NATURE --- Our choice-- The United States is the worse because of our life style, but it is not to late to change. Nature will heal itself if we do our part!!!

I would be very open to the Eco and Agro tourism because I enjoy nature and Earth's beauty. On the flip side, I guess it would also depend if my partner could enjoy herself in that setting. What works for one person may not work for another. Furthermore, if it means saving the Earth one plane ticket at a time, I'm all about it. I do think that there are more effective ways of saving the environment though. Lets stop clear cutting forests and make the U.S. adopt Kyoto. Impose penalties on corporations that are pumping pollutants into the atmosphere at an alarming rate. Impose a new emissions standard for automobiles.

I prefer vacations surrounding myself with nature like camping or hiking. I don't like to be around people so going to a public beach isn't really for me, even though I have been to many busy beaches. A few weeks ago I went snowboarding in Aspen,CO. It was great we also went on a three day hut trip where we had to snowmobile to the location and hike the last mile and a half to the cabin. It had no electricity and just had a wood burning stove and fireplace. It was nice to be in the middle of nature with its beautiful scenery and no people or city lights or other distractions. I support agrotourism, but it isn't for everyone.

I would prefer to do things the regular way. If I was a tourist in a location that had extreme poverty, was in the process of a war,or something to that extent I don't think I would want to be enjoying the enviroment through ecotourism. However, I like the idea a lot. Anything that is beneficial to the environment is an awesome thing and people should practice this all over. With global warming going to happen, (in my opinion no matter how hard we try to get past it at this point), I think the logical thing to do while touring around the world is to stay near our resources and be within reach of protection and safety. Not that nature cannot provide this but it would definitely be my choice in time of need.

I would def go on an Ecotourism place. We live in an age of technology and actaully never see the world as it was before. Plus seeing those things like waterfalls and rain forest would be nice once in awhile. I would love to get away from all the noise with freinds or a girlfriend. I would like to one day rent an island like those rich people we see on tv and just chill out on the beach or near a waterfall or mountain side. We live once and i would like to see things ive never seen before. I remember living in Nyc and one summer all the electric from nyc to nj was shut down bc of power failure and it was a once in a life time experince. We could actaully see stars at night and no lights and familys were outside untill midnight instead of inside. Its those moments in life that u learn stuff and see how fortunate we are having all these things. Going to an ecotourism place would be nice and intersting. A life time experince

I would consider an agrotourism/ecotourism vacation because I am up for anything. I think it would be exciting but then I wouldn't want every vacation I take to be like that. I think camping, hiking, rafting and so on is something each person should experience because imagine one day not having the opportunity beacuse of health or physical disabilities. Then a more modern vacation is needed sometimes beacuse a vacation should be relaxing and a getaway from everyday life. For example, some people who do physical labor in their occupation doesnt want to be outside and just have a hotel with air conditioning and go to the spa in their case. So I would like both vacations and switch between the two now and then.

It really all depends. I enjoy waking up in the morning and taking a warm shower. Turning on the T.v. and watching the news. Having a nice cup of coffee. But also sometimes its nice to get away from everything for awhile. I do believe that if i were to take a vacation i would go for a more traditional vacation hotel in a nice area. Do tourist things. Have fun. I would opt for Mass tourism.

Honestly it would depend on the situation I was in at the time. If I have been having a crazy couple months with school, work, and family then i'd more than likely opt for the whole ecotourism because of the beautiful scenery. The idea of waking up right next to a peaceful lake just sends chills down my spine because it's been so long since I haven't been around the hustle and bustle. On the contrary though, I am in college and there are times that I LIKE to be near people socializing and getting to know people from different walks of life! I have experienced both types of vacations, and I must say that both took me out of my element and into a zone that I needed. So, it all depends on the situation i'm in at the time of my decision to take either type of vacation.

I think that agro tourism and ecotourism are great ideas. I’ve loved the thought of them even before they were considered for their eco-friendly benefits. What would be better than taking time away from all the things that stress, worry, and annoy you, and immersing yourself in the local culture and traditions of another city or country? When I travel I like to experience new food, new actives and truly appreciate the area surrounding me. Major resorts while they do supply many jobs for the local population, they also contribute large amounts of waste and greenhouse emissions. In my opinion there is going to be a vacation revelation and people will consider their trips impact on the earth as well as the cost.

Well me personally with the age that I am I would prefer a mass tourism. I’m more into visiting new parts of the world, so that I can see what actually goes on in the other countries. During my time of visiting I would like to experience there way of traveling, communicating, climate and the different growth of nature.

Understanding the different cultures of life, this helps me to appreciate how the United States live today. Things that I once complained about that some countries don’t even have the same privileges, or even capable of having privileges.

This is why I feel that a mass tourism would be best for me.

I like not having people around me, but I don't think I could go as far as to eat some bat guano if I went on vacation in Africa. I'm wierd, but not that wierd. I like going on vacation in Tennessee because there isn't a lot of people and its very "naturey" if you want to call it, but I enjoy my warm showers and Taco Bell fast food too much to want to vacation in BFE where there is absolutely nothing.

Just for the record YES I would love agrotourism or ecotourism.

Been to all the "hot" spots; Vegas, New York City (eyes were beet red from the air pollution the whole five days) Miami and big ski resorts to name a few. Much, much more enjoyable to horse back ride in Dominican Rublic in the mountains, overlooking the sugar cane fields, visit with the mountain people along the way, cool off in a waterfall and alas have lunch at the top of a mountain. Pure heaven.

Well really when i vacation i really only liketo be around my family memebers or the people that i came with. I dont mind to be around other people or tourists but at the same time being around other people you dont know can get a bit aggravating or things can get out of hands because of the different backrounds and opinion being said. As long as im around good holsum people i reaal ywouldnt mind to be around them i find some tourist people to be really interesting and unique. Everyone is unique in there own way and have ther own quality. But then you have rude nasty people that dont know how to act in public and something so little to you would be big to them and that would trigger them to act childish or immature. Futhermore, i perferr ecotourism where its more of a lovely site and experinexce and i no that i willl be mostly around my family or friends than a bunch of other people and I could explore the beach, amusements park, museum and ect in a more comfortable and better enviornment.

I think the idea of turning off the lights for an hour is a great small gesture. The power in this story lies in the fact that the world did something together. This is a scientific proactive step in the right direction or a stepping stone to a greater victory of no longer using and fighting over oil.
On our last trip out of the country my wife and I spent half our time doing our best to communicate with the natives as too what to do, how to get there, and where to sleep. During that time I learned about the politics of the land their values as a culture and lot about myself. We even planted a tree! The other half of our trip at the resort we watched the locals dress up as batman and dance on stage. We meet and had great conversations at the swim up pool bar but they were American. If you travel abroad remember when in Rome…

And I'm sure the food would be fabulous!

It honestly depends but financially being a ecotourism would be best. Enjoying nature at its finest has no price to pay. However Enjoying forms of entertainment such as amusement parks, theaters, sports games, etc would most likely not be free. I do also find it more enjoyable to go to public places because there could be something breathtaking or spectacular happening in that area. Thats just a choice individuals have to take. For me I would try to conserve financially and not go to expensive public places. Such as rich restaurants big named theme parks. It also depends if you are socially interactive. I for one am not. I rather be alone drawing and doing my own thing than to hangout with my friends, but thats just me. The benefits of ecotourism is far more better than entertainment made by people.

Yes I would gladly opt for an agro tourism/ecotourism vacation, as long as I can ditch all phones and electronic devices and as long as the people where I went were MUCH nicer than the ones I encounter on a day to day basis in everyday life. But, I guess that’s why we go on vacation in the first place! Besides, I’m sure once we let go of a little technology we may have more time to truly relax and enjoy life for a bit. No matter what age you’re at currently, we are all headed in the same direction (hopefully), so why not do something to make your existence here a little better for the future.

I think this could be for some people but not for the vast majority of vacationers. I personally would enjoy doing this type of trip, and have done similar trips. I don't feel though that many people looking for a "conventional" trip would be that into this. Most people want to be pampered and do absolutely nothing on there trips. The problem with that is for travelers to pay these "low" prices, the resorts have to run cheap as possible Which leads to a whole other issue, the price of getting there. Luckily for us in florida, we dont have to do much but drive to get to beachs, but most dont have it that fortunate. Which brings me to my next issue, petrol is needed to fly, which is made from oil, which is a carefully controlled market. For this reason travel via flight most likely wont change much, keeping this problem ongoing. Hopefully as our generation gets older people will care enough to fix these issues moreso as we are now.

I would definitely consider agrotourism/ecotourism over mass tourism when it comes to vacation. I love the feeling of serenity and peace! I would rather observe the majesty of the mountains and the vastness of the ocean than to get caught up in "mass tourism.” I think vacation loses it's purpose in crowds and noise. In all the vacations I’ve gone on over the years, my favorite ones have involved nature and relaxation. A few years ago, my family and I went on a road trip up the east coast to explore all the states we’ve never been to. Our trip was so packed full and rushed, it was almost unenjoyable. Yes, I saw Niagra Falls, fireworks over the Statue of Liberty, and Boston Market, but I think I would have rather traded in the excitment for a week to lay on a private beach or relax in a cabin up in the mountains. =)

whenever i go on vacation i always like going with more people. For me the more the more people the funner the trip. I dont think it would be that fun if i were to go somewhere and there be no one there. even if i am going to see nature, i know most people would like to see nature by themselves and explore natures beauty alone but i am not like that. I like having fun and i just think going places with other people would make it more fun. So in all i would much rather have mass tourism where there is a lot more poeple than go on a agrotourism or ecotourism trip.

I would definietly go with the ecotourism. Whats wrong with visiting earth's natural beauty? I think we all need to step out of the box and discover the land we dont walk on. We see tourists all day everyday and we probably dont even know it. And if your going to go on vacation, go on vacation! Not something your normally around.

i would do any of them; mass tourism, agrotourism, and ecotourism... i love the outdoors, like camping the traditional way, and fishing and hunting. but then again i love going on cruises and trips where i could get pampered. and then i also like going out and partying some with some friends. but honestly right now the best vacation would have to be the ecotourism.blueeyes21

My first choice would definitely be mass tourism. I have always wanted to take a vacation in a more quiet, less populated area, but I more so enjoy visiting large cities. I do believe in making any and every attempt to preserve our earth, but again agrotourism or ecotourism would be my second option. It's not that I don't plan on taking a trip to a remote place it's just that I would rather stay in the comforts of the city. The idea of agrotourism/ecotourism is one that should be represented to students for trips or even advertised by travel agencies in the hope that more people will consider this option vs. mass tourism. I wonder why it is that this is not usually done.

JaneKennedy said...

Well, after gaining such an insight into the different vacations, agro or ecotourism seems like the perfect get away. I most certainly would leave the mass tourism for a more quieter, peaceful vacation. Not only would I chose this option because of my personal likes or dislikes, but just because it is aimed at achieving a better enviornment. This idea should be broadcasted in some type of larger forum so that others will get on board. Although it's sad that people have no ideas of their own and only want to do whats seen on tv (the celebrity lifestyle) it is fortunate that in this case, celebrities play a huge role in adopting agro and ecotourism as a popular and great way to vacate.

I would probably prefer both ecotourism and agrotourism because its something new and adentureous!! I mean I love going to the beaches and having people wait on me and live the life but all that stuff gets old after a while. I mean you grow up thinking thats all there is.... I think having the natural beauty of nature and exploring mother earths natural habitats that we arent accustomed to would be fasinating. I have never seen a real waterfall in my life or even rock climbed a mountain, ect... Honestly I dont see why people wouldnt want to do things like that, instead of sitting on their bumbs all day at the beach and getting sun burnt.

You don't have to travel far for ecotourism. In Florida we have plenty. Visit this site.

I have been on ecotourism vacations and I was pleasantly impressed. I had the same reservations that many of you had. Mainly, how fast will I be bored?
Well, not that fast. First of all, most of these spots are not that far from some busy with night-life towns. Maybe an hour's drive, or less.
But what happens if you stay in the local rather quite bars and taverns?
Here is the surprise. You get to meet travelers with education above average, very conscientious about the environment, well travelled and with a rather global perspective. So you have some pretty fascinating conversations. You look at your watch and it is 3 am and you say... "Man, I have been talking all that time?"

My favorite destination is the Samaria gorge on the island of Crete, in Greece. It is 18 klms long and it takes you 5 hours to go through it. You see the majestic rocks, the quiet streams, and wild goats. You reach the end to find yourself on a beautiful quiet beach. You think you are going to collapse, but the waters are so refreshing that you are in for at least an hour’s vigorous swimming.
Then you get exhausted. So you head for the local cuisine, (no cheese burgers), and meet –hopefully- some pretty interesting people. The village does have a couple of night clubs and plenty of quiet cafes. You stay a couple of days until your legs do not burn any more, and you continue. Either for mass tourism, or agrotourism, or ecotourism.

Athena Smith said...

As far as agrotourism goes, watching how wine is made can be pretty fascinating. In the US Napa Valley has elevated agrotourism to a science, and it is very expensive. In South of France or Italy, not so much. In Greece it is still cheap. In this site you get an idea of what you are exposed to. You take seminars on wine making, you get to pick the greens and veggies to make your own sald, you take local cooking lessons while surrounded by some pretty gorgeous beaches.

I realize I am turning this blog into a propaganda tool for Greek tourism, so I am shutting up. :)

I would put major consideration into doing the eco-system friendly vacation. It would certainly put into perspective of how different my life is from those around the world with less. It would give me an appreciation, and also bring some much needed peace to my life instead of experiencing the hustle and bustle of every day. There are absolutely cons of taking a vacation like this however, because to me a vacation is a reason to get away and relax. One typically goes to a very clean hotel with staff ready to pamper you, but on a “eco-friendly” vacation to get the full experience you do everything yourself with bugs galore. Someone can have the fun of sports and local cuisine without having to sacrifice a plush bed. Also it depends where you go to vacation whether you have “quiet time.” So in short yes I would try an agro/sports vacation, but it definitely would not be the norm.

A vacation to me,wouldent be a vacation without the confort and relaxation of being in an a place of no worries, a great escape. Ecotourism sounds like a wonderful idea but in my opinion it does not suite everybody. For as long as i can remember, my vacations have been to beautiful places full of both natrual and artificial beauty. There is nothing wrong with wanting to enjoy the peace and serinity of an ecotourim vaction, but at the same time i enjoy the nights out in a diffierent area, interaction with different people and picking up on their culture.

I am definitely not an outdoor person. I mean don't get me wrong nature is something so beautiful and relaxing to be around, but it is not for me. My vacation spot to be is at a resort getting pampered. That is what I call an amazing vacation. I prefer to do agrotourism. I have expierenced ecotourism last summer when I went overseas and it was not my best memmories. I realized then how much I love having air condtion. So, from expierence I like agrotourism vacations.

One of my jobs keeps me on call all the time. Even when I am working at my other job, I sometimes have to handle things for this job. My phone is constantly ringing and I always have to be able to be reached. The only thing I turn my phone off for is this class. Given the opportunity, I would opt for the ecotourism or agrotourism vacation. There was a time when we would open and close the camping season and camp out right at the lake. Phones did not work out there so there was no reaching us and it was wonderful. Not only is it beautiful, it gives you the chance to enjoy your family doing different things without the interruption of the outside world. You can actually have conversations, play games, cook meals and sleep outdoors. It's wonderful. All this and it's good for the planet...sounds like a win win to me.

Nilo said...

I would go for ecotourism. I love the natural environment and I think we should respect nature and the planet we live in. I don't need fancy hotels or modern things to be able to enjoy our planet. As people did thousands of years ago we can learn to appreciate and be in balance with what nature offer us. I would love to just have a sleeping bag and be able to spend a couple of days in a tropical forest, or anywhere where there is a lot of vegetation and fresh unpolluted air. I think technology and modernization is good for many things in modern life but it disconnect us from our roots of children of this earth. It is all about balance and respect and because people lack these, there is where the problems arise. Then again this is just my opinion.

If I have a vacation, I would get ecotourism. Like go to beach with my friend, I prefer when I hang out get too many friends with me because I get bored very fast. And rather go to another country it has mountain, because I like to climbing mountain. My vacation should have too many different things to do it to don’t feel bored. So that’s why I prefer to has too many friends with me in my vacation, I don’t like a quite places I like to go with whatever dangerous, but is not against the law to enjoy.

The ecotourism is actually a really good idea because for one it helps the environment and two it gets you away from a the craziness that the cities bring. I don't believe that it is completely reasonable to think that it will completely take over tourism from cities. When people visit cities for vacations and such they are more likely to spend a substantial amount of money that will help the economy and the cities that they are visiting. Also another problem with these "nature vacations" is that in today's society everyone is very well connected with each other, we have our laptops, cell phones, pagers etc... and when you go out into these rural nature areas that are miles away from anyone they can't be connected for any reason. I do think its a good idea and anything we can do to help should be done.

I enjoy watching nature. I have loved and noticed the sunsets, beaches, trees, etc. I'm not too big on hiking, canoeing, camping, etc. I don't think living in the wild for a long time period, even though I've have never tried it before, would be the first option for my vacation. But if it was for good reason, like ecotouism I would differently try it. I may be more agreeable on agrotourism. I like to stay locally to my home area. Especically since i'm not from florida, and I'm still not sure where I'm going most of the time. I would like to visit everything thats local.

If I was on vaction I choose the tourist attraction beacuse I like seeing buildings, parks, and different thigs. I like nature, but I would rather go the beach not the woods or hiking. The only thing I like about is quitness. I would do Agrotourism beacuse I experience it. I Like staying local houses eating local foods. I would do both agrotourism/ecotourism, but I like to be around luxury things. I like nice hotels and good views. I would definetly opt for Mass tourism.

All of them sound so wonderful, but I definitely think it depends on what type of vacation mood I'm in. If I'm looking just to relax all of them sound extremely GREAT. But if I wanted to be around alot of people; then Mass tourism, but if I wanted a more serene environment by myself or even with a couple of friends then the Agrotourism/Ecotourism sounds GREAT. I think the entire point of the word "vacation" is to find a place where you feel the most relaxed. For me that relaxed state comes when I'm around water. So either would probably be just fine.

nmartinez1514 said...

If I had the choice I would have to go with ecotourism. The thought of seeing untouched, natural forests, mountains, lake, rivers, etc sounds great. There would be no pollution, no traffic noise, no worries. The flora and fauna would be in their natural habitat with no interruptions or cages like the zoo. The sights would be amazing like the starlit night and best of all I would be promoting a natural vacation that is good for mother earth. I would probably even feel better breathing natural fresh air.

akm said...

I would like both. I like to be around people and public events, but i also like to be around natural settings like the rivers and lakes. The natural beauty of these places is quit relaxing. It really depends on what type of person you are when deciding on where to vacation at. I really like to travel and have the best of both types of tourism. No matter what type of tourism you prefer you should make sure you enjoy it, if you dont like lakes and rivers and other natural settings then stay with the mass tourism and vice versa.

As much as i love staying in fancy hotels and soaking up the sun just a so many others do, i wouldnt mind trying ecotourism. i guess it would depend on the kind if vaction im seeking. i know if im looking for a relaxing and stress free vaction where i can just lay around i would go for the crowed beaches full of tourist. however if i want to go experience the nature and or culture of a country, ectourism sounds wonderful. its a great oppourtinity to get a feel for how it is to live there in the natural environment and also try the native foods. i also think its a great idea to take in natures beauty and realize just how great our home called earth really is.

I'm one of those people that like the convenience of tourist attractions. I've never been one to enjoy pure nature, as I've never (nor do I ever care to) gone camping or anything as the such. Sure, ecotourism is a great things for the nature lovers, the hikers, even for people who want to try something new and different. As for me, I like having luxuries when I can. I'll leave the nature stuff to the nature folk lol.

Ms.Krissy said...

For me it definitely depends, because when I go on vacation I like to have fun and then I would also like to have peace and quiet at one time as well. But more than likely I would probably do the natural resort with all of the greenery. Even though that wouldn't be my typical vacation it still seems very relaxing a healthy for me. I love the idea of beaches and parties but sometimes it is also good to just take some time out to relax and enjoy the sounds of the earth (even though I hate bugs and basically anything that crawls in the wildlife). But still the ecotourism would be the one I choose over any of them as of right now.

I would absolutely do the ecotourism/agrotourism vacation. I don't consider myself an outdoors person but nature has a way of just taking my breath away. I've driven from Florida to Washington state and the sites I saw were simply amazing. I've only been on one vacation when I was in my twenties and of course I wanted to go out and see what the nightlife was about. Amazingly enough it was the locals just winding down from a long week of work. There was good music and good people in a little whole in the wall restaurant, it was nice. My friend and I went snorkeling, did a sunset cruise, and mingled with others during a meet and greet. I've never been on a vacation where I was pampered so I can't miss something I've never had.

I would prefer mass tourism for my vacation. A vacation in my opinion is a way to relax and forget about the stress that comes from our everday life like work and school.I'm not implying that i dont want to get to understand other cultures and how people live, or be able to enjoy the beauties that nature offers with its lakes and mountains. Mass tourism just has more appeal to me with its luxurious resorts that pamper you all day and enjoyable nightlife that a city has to offer.

I have never done any camping or hiking, and I would like to experience both. I plan to visit Europe in August .....any suggestions ,I need feedback.

Vacation sounds very good to me,especially ecotourism because with my two kids I always ending up going mas tourism usually kids don't enjoy and get bore soon with ecotourism, so my personal choice is ecotourism so I can enjoy the natural beauty of life; like, lakes, mountains, rivers, and valleys. I like enjoying and admiring nature and especially staying in the small guest houses and have some relax and peace of mind. Mass tourism and ecotourism both are fabulous vacations' but I prefer ecotourism because I haven't done for so long.

i would love to go on a ecotour. I am a firm believer that you can appreciate and learn more about the culture and land by having these types of experiences.

I learned a lot about Global Warming when i had to write a paper that prove that Global Warming exists. As i suspected Global Warming does exist. There needs to be more a lot more global involvement from the communities and government.

I know that globally we get distracted by all the other issues of the world, such as the current economic conditions. We can not ignore saving the earth and maybe if people put more effort into Global warming, just maybe it could create jobs and stimulate the economy. With the magnitude of things that need to be done, from awareness, education and projects i believe the new jobs could be bountiful.

Why not have ecoresorts, ecocamps, ecocommunity projects and ecocommunity service. Maybe they could even develop ecocommunities. We truly need to be aware of these problems and although they may not be able to be reversed ,with global participation we could stop any further damage.

My choice for a vacation would probably be to go to a place where there is tourism because I like the crowd and the noise. I also like the nightlife so I wouldn’t want to stay in a place by a quiet lake. I am not really the type of person that likes to spend a vacation in a quiet natural surrounding and I enjoy the comforts of a nice hotel with a view of a city. The best thing about a vacation is to meet new people and go out and enjoy new things.

I would personally choose to experience an agrotourism/ecotourism vacation. I strong believe that even a mass vacation has some qualities of an agrotourism/ ecotourism type of vacation. For example, in September of 2002 my family and I went on a cruise to Mexico and the Cayman Islands where we experience both a mass vacation as well as an agrotourism vacation. We chose not to go the beaches or well visited areas but we traveled a short distance from the cruise ship to some of the areas that were not as developed. We ate the local food, mingled among the common people in their own natural settings and got a priceless chance to experience the real culture of the individuals in Mexico and the Cayman Islands.

My next vacation would be agrotourism and I would travel to my home country of Guyana in South America or the incredible country of India. Guyana is a quickly developing country but the areas that I would visit would be where my parents grew up, which are not underdeveloped but still not as technologically advanced as other parts. The farm lands of my grandparents are still being used today and I believe that it would not only be very educational but also incredibly poignant to see where my parents grew up and the culture they spent the early parts of their life in. The same culture and traditions that although has been somewhat altered, it still remains strong and deeply implemented into my life.

Even though my ethnicity is Guyanese my race has been traced six generations back to the areas around Agra. Although this area is famously known for the Taj Mahal, the Agra Fort and the Jama Masjid, I have a great desire to experience the true culture of Indians, their lifestyles, food, and the rural environments. I do not wish to go to the most elaborate places in this country but to the places of the most simple and underdeveloped. It is in such places where I will truly have the ability learn about the life that my ancestors had once lived.

I think that i would want to try both just because of the fact that i have always traveled mostly for pleasure, staying in hotels and what not. But if i had to choose i guess i would say Ecotourism. I think it would be nice to be in a relaxing enviornment. I think that all the things that eco offers is just as enjoyable as any other vacation. Going hiking and participating in their local activities would be great. Not only can it be educational for people that are new to the traveling experience but also it could actually be a favortie experience of theirs.

I think the idea of the environmentally-friendly tours is interesting and wouldn't mind taking part in it. I don't get a chance to vacation much so I'd be happy just to vacation at all! :) A sense of the local simplicities - food, culture, etc. would be fulfilling.
However I don't really see how, even doing this on a large, scale would make a large impact on slowing adverse affects on the environment.
I think the biggest detriment to our environment comes from industrialized nations that do not have the environmental restriction we have in the U.S. Probably the largest one that comes to mind is China. I believe India does to some extent as well, and I'm sure there are some others. I think environmental laws that are actually put into implementation and that are followed in highly industrialized nations such as these would have much more impact than people taking pictures of the Sphinx deciding to "rough-it" instead of staying at the Hilton.

Well...how about a little bit of both? In the early '90s, I spent 3 months trekking through Central America. For the most part, the "chicken buses" dropped us off in towns and villages that did not have anything close to a tourist industry. We would stay with local families, in their guestrooms for a few dollars (US of course because at that time the dollar was worth something), and would truly get a taste of the culture. This was a fantastic time! Now that I have a gotten a bit older (and spoiled), I kinda like the comforts that somewhere like Glacier Natl Park offers. You can pitch your tent and go on a bitchin' hike and get a good look at Mother Nature (even though your getting this look with a million other people that visit this park every year) but, if need be, you can drive a couple of miles down the road and get a sandwich from Subway. So...I vote for a bit o' both!

Personally the prospect of going on a vacation to a quiet place with close family or a loved one and being able to take in the natural beauty of the enviroment is somthing i think i might enjoy. Getting away from the hustle of everyday life to go on a vacation where it's possibly more of the same doesnt make me feel relaxed or engaged in what im there to do, unless it to have a good time with a crowd of people. I used to live in the Bahamas part of the year in a secluded part of the island ( Marsh Harbor ) i enjoyed the serenity and the fact that there was little to no smog in the air, everything was clean and the people where warm to me. I believe i could enjoy Agrotourism or somthing close to it, i would be excited to be presented with the opportunity to do somthing a little different with my vacation time.

I will definitely love to go on both but as of now i prefered agrotourism/ecotourism to mass tourism.I was brought up in an agricultural lifestyle and as such i have love everything that concerns agriculture.I will loved to visit some of the entertainment farms or fruit picking farms and this will give me the oppurtunity to work in the fields along real farmers and wade knee deep in the see with fishermen hauling in their nets.I will love to pick fruits, ride in horses, learn about wine and shop in farmers gift shop. This will help me expand my knowledge as far as agriculture is concern.

One more thing. From your comments I see that many of you are under the impression that ecotourism is like camping under the stars. It could be but mostly it is not. You do stay in hotels with nice beds and hot water. These hotels however are small guest houses exerting the minimum imapct on the natural environment.

If I was to go on my vacation, I would definably choose the ecotourism one. I love the idea of going back to nature. Seeing things as they were originally, and enjoying the basic things the way they should be. I’d take this type of vacation because I enjoy the back to basics kind of things. I am often by myself doing something quietly. The best vacation I ever had was in England and we visited all the historical sites and trails.
I choose the ecotourism way because I enjoy the quietness of sitting beneath tall trees as I read or quietly think. I love to vacation at a place where I can sit and listen to the ocean, while watching the waves break. I’m relaxed and at peace sitting under an old tree, especially if the wind is blowing (I love the sight and sound of the wind sliding through the trees.)
I’m in touristic heaven leaning on a big old tree and eating the native dish prepared by the small bed and breakfast where I would chose to stay. I’m really out there having a great vacation when I am walking along the trail where Robin Hood once walked. I love taking a small tour through the temples and tombs.
I have been fortunate enough to have been to many places of natural beauty where the emphasis is on the enjoyment of having and doing things in the natural way. Whenever I’m given a choice I always take the ecotourism route. Old places filled with history. Quite cathedrals, famous tombs, natural lakes, beautiful natural waterfalls, streams, and springs.
I’ve always chosen to take the ecotourismtic way. I don’t choose this way because of global warning. I don’t choose this way because of greenhouse gases. This is and has always been my vacation style of choice.

Actually both types would be appealing to me. I consider both to be a true vacation. I am a culture enthusiast, if you will. I am extremely open-minded and willing to take part in local activities and eating local cuisine. No huge resort or restaurant can make a local dish better than the locals themselves. I love nature and i love observing it in its natural form. There would be no better feeling than watching old faithful, or snorkeling in Hawaii or the Great Barrier Reef, knowing that you're observing nature at its finest. Locals have to be the best tour guides ever. They grew up in the area they know all the little secrets of their town. Either vacation is fine... It’s a vacation!

India is filled with adventurous Eco activities like mountaineering, rock climbing, trekking, mountain biking, nature walking, and river rafting. I cannot imagine how invigorating and what a life changing experience it would be . Having chance to see Gods awesome creation, and realize how boxed in we really are in everyday life. There is so much in the world that God created for our enjoyment that we fail to take time in thanking and glorifying him for.

With me I love the mass tourism thing but at times I just want to be with family or my boyfriend for a 'one with nature' vacation. Mass tourism is very good, because tourists are buying things from the country and supplying revenue to the country. But you also create extra garbage for the environment. And for the agrotourism thing, I think that's wonderful! I would definitely do it! And ecotourism, that totally sounds like me. I love to be with nature, and I’m helping the planet by being eco-friendly. But you can already consider my vacations eco-friendly because whenever I visit somewhere I don’t stay in a hotel, I stay with family or friends, and we make food, and just hang out. We just chill.

graphics4me said...

If I were to go on vacation I would choose to do the ecotourism. Mass tourism is not that much of a vacation unless your a person that lives in a small town. Ecotourism allows people to get away from the city, yet also enjoy a nice hotel, fine dinning, and enjoyable entertainment, all while imposing the minimalist damage to the environment. Agrotourism seems like you are going to be spending your vacation as an amish person with nothing to do but work on the farm. Ecotourism gives you all the benefits of a regular vacation while still being environmentally friendly.

I would have to say that I participate in eco-tourism every couple years. My dad's side of the family is from Pennsylvania. Though he is from Pittsburgh, the family has owned property on the Allegheny River in a small town called Tidioute, PA. Tidioute is west of Pittsburgh, located in the Allegheny Mountains which is part of the Appalachian Mountains. The house on the property, what we call "The Cottage", is very traditional. There is a water pump at the base of a hill leading to the river that is still in use today. There is no cable television and only a small tv used for movies. There wasn't even a microwave until 5 years ago. I join my family every couple years for about a week long trip to the Cottage which I cherish so much. The air takes your breath away. There is very little industry for miles. This place is my escape from the city life. We canoe, kayak, swim, hike, and explore. We even have a big tire swing out front and a fire pit for cold summer nights and roasting marshmallows. The house and property have been there for many many years. I can't even begin to express how amazing it feels to visit the cottage. Everything from the dishes to wallpaper to beds to baseball gloves are all original from when the house was first built. It's wonderful to have a place like "The Cottage" to escape from the "real world" whenever i choose. I will do everything in my power to preserve it too!

At this point in my life i would prefer the mass tourism spots. I enjoy going to the beaches and also enjoy good nightlife with large groups of people. So that basically pushes me towards the higher populated areas. But im sure as i get older when I travel I will just want to go on vacation to relax and get away from the big crowds and instead just go to take in the nature and culture of whatever place that I happen to go to.

Where would my next vacation be?? I really can't say considering that i'm a fan of both peace and quite but i also love to be around people. I do think that being comfortable on your vacation is important, not many people are into mountain climbing,or being outdoors in genral so for them they would probibly choose agrotourism because they want to experience vacation around people. now me personally i would perfer either because a vacation is a vacation no matter what you call it :-) but i really woudn't mind going for the ecotourism because i do love being outdoors and being active, it gives you a chance to see what nature has to offer

I absolutely love being in the outdoors. Don't get me wrong I love to be in a great social environment and to experience the "high" associated being round the energetic, frenzied, crazy, bustling masses. However, one aspect that I think is becoming gravely perilous among our current society is our disassociation with nature. We must remember that nature is where we come from, and also what we are connected to, and dependent upon. I would definitely elect to go on the ecotourism over any other mentioned vacation. However some people simply don't have the money. Some of the most easily affordable alternatives would be fishing, hunting, camping, and hiking. Every November I travel back to Michigan to participate in a family tradition of Deer Camp. Roughly 20 members of my family erect a surplus army tent in the middle of the nearly 100,000 acre Pigeon River County State Forest. It is a fantastic time despite the frigid temp during this time of the year. There are no luxuries allowed during the two week outing, save for a propane grill and a battery powered radio. The tent is heated by a family heirloom, a nearly 100 year old wood stove and all food is prepared on ether open flame or a propane grill. The time spent here is relaxing and refreshing composed of the elderly and young alike telling stories and playing cards and the occasional snow chilled beer. Every morning at five o'clock sharp the tent is awakened by my grandfathers famous phrase "come on you guys its daylight in the swamp." Fresh coffee is served and everyone gets clothed, loads there rifles, and heads out in the dark of the morning to their perspective hunting blinds. It is simply breathtaking to spend 5 hours in solitude and only the sounds of nature surrounding you. You pick up on the habits and nature of not only the deer, but also the other inhabitants of the forest and cedar swamp. It is truly something everyone should experience once in their life. If you have never heard the sound of snow falling on the ground, you are missing out on one of life’s true treasures. Anyway my point is you don't need to go on a thousand dollar eco trip. Go hunting, fishing, camping, hiking or some similar activity to enjoy the outdoors. And please, any foolish vegetarians or Peta activists, before you attack me, please explain why we have canine teeth, or state if you get your fruits and vegetables from wildlife friendly farms, because ask any farmer if there is crop damage due to wildlife they simply eradicate the problem. Yes, that means they kill it. Also Depart of Natural Resources officers cite the information and observations of hunters and fishers as vital and invaluable in collecting wildlife information. In addition most state conservation efforts are almost entirely funded on fishing and hunting licenses. Wild meat is also more nutritious and healthy then any commercially raised meat. Sorry I have no specific numbers to reference or cite, but if you do the research, the info is there! So put down your blackberry and turn off your tv and computer and go enjoy wildlife and the environment no matter what your preferred activity. Hopefully my next eco-adventure/vacation will be an Alaskan Grizzly bear archery hunt the following fall!

I would choose the ecotourism as long as is for a small period of time. I been to like eight ecotourism trips in my life and I still have good memories about them. They are very entertaining and most of the people I been with wants to do one after we come back from a previous one. However, I also remember that the longest ecotourism that I had became very boring at the end. I was getting tire of seeing greens everywhere. I still remember that the desire to go back to town was high. That’s why I would choose ecotourism up to a point. I am sure that not only me but everyone else get tire of seeing the something over and over. Variety is what makes life interesting and fun.

To be totally honest with you I love both types of tourism agrotourism and ecotourism. They both offer great benefits agrotourism for example, allows you to be with nature in a way no big hotels and roads. Agro is more of a simple vacation almost like living at home but with less greenhouse gases floating around polluting your body. Ecotourism is great to, who wouldn’t like to go away for a week and visit mountains, but one thing is eco is a little more sophisticated and usually offers more activities (more kid friendly). In the end I enjoy agro and eco vacations but I definitely think that one should try both.

I would do a mass tourism because I am with people who wants to do the same thing I want to do. I would get bored if it was just me. I like talking to people and doing group activities. I actually never went with a mass group of people ever since I was in elementary school. I had fun with the other kids when I went to Disney world and other theme parks. I had a lot to talk about. I hate boring vacations. when I go on a vacation I need to have fun because I really do not have fun. I am always busy with school and work.

I would love try ecotourism for a vacation. For me, vacation is going somewhere quiet and peaceful but also somewhere where I can have fun and enjoy the beauty of where I'm vacationing. I grow up on an island so I guess wanting to be around natural and also preserving it, is like second nature to me. Unfortunlately, for me to enjoy such a vacation without spending an arm and a leg, I have to go home. Most of the vacations, that are affordable are mass tourism vacations. I think that ecotourism will become more popular as more countries turn to it.

If i had the choice going on a vacation between Mass Tourism and Agrotourism/Ecotourism, I would pick Agrotourism and Ecotourism because if i'm going on vacation i wouldn't really enjoy myself with alot of other tourist going from bus to bus and hotel to hotel together so in my eyes i think it would be a not so great experience. now on the otherhand, i would consider visiting the agricultural areas and staying in local hotels and also visting beautiful natural sites and i would love to enjoy the place by the sites and the people around it and how they live and that would be an unforgettible experience for me.

I like both, but it depends on the mood im in. Its always fun to go to resorts and beaches with friends and play around, but the beauty of nature is also something great to experience.

Right now I would opt for resort trips and things of that nature. Im guessing I will be more inclined to take eco-based trips when im older. Besdies, it salways fun to go out with a large froup of people when you can and when you get older that sort of thing goes away.

Depending on the place, I would consider taking an Agro-tourism/ Eco-tourism vacation. This type of vacation would help me directly experience the life of the people and the full affect of traditions and cultures. I believe this type of vacation is more educational and exciting. The dangers, if any, are what I would worry about, but all in all the idea of a complete culture change is rewarding. Investing my time in something that is for tourists and costs are high is not a vacation worth taking. The scenery is by far more realistic in an Eco-tourism area because it is usually untouched by the outside world.

Personally, when I vacation I would without a doubt want to be immersed in the culture and experience life in the eyes of the citizens that reside their. Don't get me wrong, five star hotels and the luxury lifestyle definitely have their advantages, but I am one that enjoys down to earth living over an expensive lifestyle. I cant say that the environmental factors are the reason why, although I do understand how vital it is to conserve and find ways for safe efficient energy. I really think that everyone should strive towards trying to replicate a lifestyle of a certain culture because it truly is a learning experience that will open your eyes to the world around you. Seeing how others that may be less fortunate than you conduct their everyday activities and go about getting their everyday needs is a beautiful thing to witness. Im not saying that every time you decide to vacation to deprive yourself of a luxury lifestyle if thats what you favor, but to try ecotourism at least once in your life due to all the benefits it has to offer.

I see I got more personal descriptions.
You don't have to convince me.
From Alaska to South America, I would be the first to go!
